Lorde wins two awards at the 2014 Grammy Awards

The shorter, truer version of what happened

New Zealand’s Lorde won two awards at the 2014 Grammy Awards. Go girl! She scooped up the ‘best song’ award for her single Royals and also took home a second award for ‘best pop solo performance’.

During her speeches, Lorde (whose real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor) remained calm and gracious as she thanked Joel Little (her co-producer) for nurturing her through her early songwriting years. Other tributes were made to fellow ‘best pop solo performance’ nominees Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake and Sara Bareilles whose vocals had inspired her.

Lorde’s most memorable comments of the night were:

#1: When E.T asked Lorde who she was wearing, she replied: “A white shirt and black pants.”

#2: During her ‘best pop song’ award speech for Royals, Lorde said: “Thank you to everyone who has let this song explode, because it’s been mental.”
